To walk through the door of this gem of a pub is to step back in time to the
days of Victorian splendour - thick carpets, pictures on walls and ceilings
and a comfy, homely atmosphere. Walk on through to the courtyard and you will
find a bright and airy bar with a distinct rustic feel.
There has been a pub on this site since 1547 and the original Landlord, one Derrick
Carver was burnt as a martyr for his religious beliefs. One of its' most famous "guests" in
the past has been "Jack the Ripper" - in The Greene Room bar, (upstairs),
spend some time following the story of his origins and how he planned his murders
from this very spot. This is also the famous pub immortalised by Graham Greene
in his classic novel "Brighton Rock".
This unique pub has a charm all of its' own and attracts locals, business people
and visitors from all around the World who enjoy the atmosphere of a true Victorian
public house along with good beer and quality food. Its central location lends
itself perfectly to work parties and gatherings. Call the pub on 01273 329472
