THE COLONNADE BAR
• Cosy Theatre Bar, an integral part of the Theatre Royal
• Interval, Pre & Post Theatre drinks orders available
• Situated in the heart of the ‘Theatreland’ of Brighton
In June 2007 the street was ‘semi-pedestrianised’ leading to a more continental feel and encouraging external drinking areas. In the same month the bar received some TLC and re-opened with a brighter and warmer interior and a fabulous benched external area for drinking (and smoking!).
Autographed photographs of famous artists past and present adorn the walls
of this cosy bar which is an integral part of the famous Georgian Theatre Royal.
During the day this bar is frequented by local residents, businessmen and tourists
alike. However, when the Theatre is operative it takes on a different persona
becoming the ideal meeting place for theatre patrons. Pre and post show plus
interval drink orders are taken and buzzing atmosphere often continues after
the performances when many cast and crew come in for well-earned refreshments.
In addition, ‘Willie’ who dominates the window must be one of the
most photographed models in the world! He is an original automaton and is believed
to be over 120 years old.
This wonderful bar, set in the heart of Brighton faces the beautiful gardens
of the Royal Pavilion. In the vicinity are the Dome complex, Corn Exchange and
many other small privately owned theatres. The Colonnade Bar is a piece of local
history not to be missed.
