To walk through the door of this real find of a pub is to step back in time to the days of Victorian splendour - thick carpets, pictures on walls and ceilings and a comfy, homely atmosphere.

There has been a pub on this site since 1547 and the original Landlord, one Derrick Carver was burnt as a martyr for his religious beliefs. One of its' most famous "guests" in the past has been "Jack the Ripper" - and in The Greene Room bar, (upstairs), you can spend some time following the story of his origins and how he planned his murders from this very spot. This is also the famous pub immortalised by Graham Greene in his classic novel "Brighton Rock".

This unique pub has a charm all of its' own and attracts locals, business people and visitors from all around the World who enjoy the atmosphere of a true Victorian public house along with good beer and quality food served til late. Its central location lends itself perfectly to work parties and gatherings. Call the pub on 01273 329472 for details on private hire options, buffets and party packages.

  • Just to say Maggs Thai Kitchen at the Longman is manner from heaven.

Absolutley fab and even though we have moved out of brighton we regularly come back to eat here.  LUCIS SARGENT 3rd April 2012

  • My wife & i called in for a couple of drinks on Saturday night before dinner and this morning i realised that i had misplaced my mobile phone.  We called the Cricketers in the hope that it might have been found and, sure enough, a very nice young lady told us that it had been handed in.  We went along and picked it up.  Apart from feeling like a fool for losing the phone, i am thrilled at the honesty of your staff and customers.  THANK YOU. Great pub by the way.  MR DAVID EDWARDS - 27/11/2011

  • CRICKETERS - Just a quick note to say thanks to John and the guys for saturday 5th.  I had a fab birthday and all my friends commented on how great the food was and that the staff and venue were perfect.  They really did you proud - they were very professional and also really friendly which is difficult to get right.
Thanks again, Regards, Debbie Daly  - 11/11/2011
  • THE LONGMAN OF WILMINGTON PATCHAM - Fantastic food - Thai during the week and Sat & Roasts on Sunday.  Best roast dinner in Brighton - perfectly cooked every time!

  • My wife and I have now been to The Plough (Rottingdean) 3 times for Sunday lunch. Without
any doubt, they serve the best (by far) Sunday lunch around these parts.
Tender lean meat and a lovely selection of veg. Highly recommended

Peter Blackley, Rottingdean Brighton AUG 2010
